“Job Corps”

The from the federal What Works Clearinghouse gives the federal Job Corps education and training program a “potentially positive” rating for its effectiveness at getting participating students to earn a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate.

Begun in 1964 as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty, the Job Corps provides job placement and training to economically disadvantaged 16- to 24-year-olds, many of whom live in Job Corps centers while they’re enrolled.

Despite the program’s effect on completion, clearinghouse analysts concluded that it has “no discernible effects” on promoting students’ progress through the grades.
