a former superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified school district, has died. King, 57, had been battling cancer.
She took the reins of the school system in 2016. While on medical leave and undergoing cancer treatment in 2018, she announced her plans to retire.
King had deep roots in Los Angeles. A graduate of the district, she attended the University of California, Los Angeles. She spent nearly 33 years working for LAUSD, starting as a teacher’s aide and rising through the administrative ranks, from assistant principal to superintendent.
