Parents and community members often have expectations for what it means to hold schools accountable for student success that differ from those of policymakers, a research brief suggests.

Produced by Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning, a nonprofit organization based in Aurora, Colo., the brief found, for instance, that parents and other people in the community want evidence of accountability, but they do not always consider test scores as adequate measures for that purpose. The research brief is based on existing research, focus groups, follow-up interviews, and surveys of parents and community members.
