Even the best educators have struggled over how to keep their students engaged. The pandemic only deepened the challenge: With students home for months on end during COVID, isolation and alienation became engrained in their academic experiences, in spite of teachers鈥 best efforts. What can educators do to help students find their way back?

Join host Peter DeWitt as he discusses how to help students recover their joy of learning with leadership researcher Russ Quaglia, veteran school leader Ron Myers, and science teacher Jont茅 Lee (aka 鈥#TheKitchenChemist鈥).

Speakers
Jont茅 Lee
Jont茅 Lee has been a STEM teacher in Washington public schools for eight years, having earned his license from Howard University鈥檚 alternative certification program, Ready To Teach. At the height of the pandemic, while his students watched online, Lee regularly turned his kitchen into a chemistry lab, earning him the moniker 鈥淭he Kitchen Chemist.鈥 His kitchen lab garnered the attention of Education Week, People Magazine, Good Morning America, and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt. He was also featured on Amazon鈥檚 鈥淩egular Heroes鈥 and named one of ABC News Heroes in 2020.
Ron Myers
Ron Myers has served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal in rural, suburban, and urban public schools in Oklahoma and Texas for nearly four decades. In August, he will assume a full-time teaching position as an assistant professor of professional practice at the College of Education at Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth.
Russ Quaglia
Russ Quaglia is a researcher who studies student voice and aspirations and provides professional development to educators on how to support student learning. He authored the 鈥淪chool Voices鈥 suite of surveys, which has surveyed more than a million students worldwide on the conditions that impact self-worth, engagement, purpose, and voice. He has written several best-selling books, including Student Voice: The Instrument of Change and Engagement by Design, which he co-authored.
