Dear principals, assistant principals, aspiring principals and all school leaders,

Today, Education Week is debuting , a weekly newsletter just for principals and other school leaders.

For the last few years, I’ve been the editor of EdWeek’s school leadership and school management coverage. In that time, my team and I have had dozens and dozens of in-person conversations and online interactions with principals, deepening my understanding of the singular challenges of being the CEO/lead learner/chief morale officer (or however you’d describe your leadership mindset). The work you do is critical to the enterprise of teaching and learning and essential for teachers, students, and schools to be successful.

So, we’re launching The Savvy Principal to serve your specific needs. I’ll write and edit it myself, so it will look and feel different than other EdWeek newsletters you may already receive.

My goal is to share compelling and relevant news and information to deepen your knowledge in just a few minutes, once a week. (We’re starting out with Monday mornings). I want the newsletter to be a venue for capturing the authentic experiences of school leaders—your hard work, your aspirations, your challenges. I also want to delight you, with doses of inspiration, hilarity, and absurdity.

I know we are starting this new venture at the most challenging moment in public education in a generation. Your already demanding job is made harder by the difficulties of remote teaching and learning and the deep uncertainties and anxieties in your school communities around health, job loss, and when things can return to “normal.” The Savvy Principal will be a partner as you lead your teachers, staff, students, and school communities through this unprecedented time.

I hope you like what we do in The Savvy Principal and I invite you to email or to tell me what you like, don’t like, and what you want to see in the newsletter.

To sign up, just . I look forward to seeing you in your inboxes!

Best,

Lesli Maxwell, editor, The Savvy Principal
