A survey from the Education Week Research Center offers important insights about the levels of engagement and dedication teachers and school-based administrators see among their students.

Engagement Landscape

Teachers and school-based administrators are often directly involved in efforts to engage and motivate students and to address challenges that can complicate those endeavors. To learn more about educators’ views related to such experiences, the Education Week Research Center conducted an online survey of teachers and school-based administrators who are registered users of edweek.org. The results offer important insights about the levels of engagement and dedication respondents see among their students. The findings also shed light on respondents’ opinions regarding potential strategies for improvement.

About This Survey
To learn more about perspectives on student engagement and motivation, the Education Week Research Center administered an online survey to a sample of teachers and school-based administrators who are registered users of edweek.org, the Education Week website. More than 500 respondents participated in the survey, which was fielded in April 2014. Those respondents included classroom teachers, instructional specialists, school principals, and other school administrators. Although the sample for the survey is not statistically representative of the nation’s teachers or school administrators, the study collected data on the attitudes and opinions of a diverse group of respondents whose schools vary in size, poverty level, and location.
