A third of children in Canada’s schools are either immigrants themselves or have at least one parent who was born in a different country. Yet, despite the well-known challenges immigrants face, Canada has one of the highest-performing education systems in the world.

In this video, which originally aired on PBS Newshour, Education Week correspondent Kavitha Cardoza investigates Canada’s approach to English-learner instruction, exploring the methods and strategies teachers use to enable non-native children to achieve similar educational outcomes to native-born students.
