Former Missouri education Commissioner Margie Vandeven, who was fired by by the state’s board of education, has been rehired.

Vandeven clashed with former GOP Gov. Eric Greitens over how to handle the expansion of charter schools. After being elected in 2017, Greitens began appointing board members he thought would fire her. District administrators and teachers rallied to her side and petitioned to keep her in office, but in December of last year, Vandeven was fired.

Greitens subsequently was ousted in a scandal, and his replacement, Mike Parson, also a Republican, ended up filling several other vacancies on the board. After interviewing several applicants, the board late last month decided, in a unanimous vote, to rehire Vandeven.
