The Four-Day School Week Debate (Video)

A growing number of school districts across the country are making the switch from a five- to four-day week. Proponents argue a shortened school week is popular among parents and can help rural districts save money. But are fewer days in school hurting children’s academic growth? What about the impact on working families’ child-care needs?

In this PBS Newshour video, Education Week Correspondent Kavitha Cardoza spoke with educators and students from the Cobre Consolidated School District in New Mexico, which made the change just before the state declared a moratorium on the practice.
