Canada’s largest school district will no longer book any trips to the United States because of fears students might have trouble at the border stemming from travel restrictions enacted by President Donald Trump.
Toronto, one of the most multicultural cities in the world, is among the largest districts in North America with more than 246,000 students and 584 schools. It books dozens of trips to the United States every year. Other Canadian school boards have canceled or are considering canceling trips to the United States, as has the Girl Guides of Canada.
For now, the Toronto district says that it will move forward with the 25 trips involving about 900 students that have already been approved, but said the entire group will turn back if any students with appropriate documentation are turned away.
