The effort, 鈥淗omeschooling Family to Family,鈥 is being paid for by Exodus Mandate, an initiative founded by E. Ray Moore Jr., a Columbia, S.C.-based evangelical Christian ordained in the Plymouth Brethren Church. Mr. Moore declined to say how much money Exodus Mandate is spending on the effort.

Exodus Mandate urges Christian parents to remove their children from public schools and either home-school them or enroll them in Christian schools, according to Mr. Moore.

鈥淧eople are coming to us,鈥 he said, 鈥渁nd saying, 鈥楬ow do I get started?鈥 We feel it鈥檚 time to get on the offense and urge experienced home-school families to mentor their friends, family, neighbors, and fellow church members [on home schooling].鈥

Nearly 1.1 million children were being home-schooled in the United States in 2003, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.
