How We Work

Our research team analyzes national data and drills down to the state or local level. Areas of expertise include: American Community Survey, Common Core of Data, Civil Rights Data Collection, market research, original sample surveys, and school finance.

Results of qualitative and quantitative studies offer actionable insights for K-12 educators, policymakers, and industry leaders.

The Research Center conducts a range of grant- and contract-based studies. This work can include original surveys of teachers or education administrators. Surveys developed and administered by our team of researchers tap into the knowledge and perspectives of educators with first-hand experience in schools and classrooms. Survey projects have been produced with the support of partners from the philanthropic community.

The Research Center's customized surveys and other analyses also inform clients seeking to learn more about the education landscape. Projects have provided major companies with timely, actionable data regarding assessment, curriculum, education technology, and other topics. In addition to surveys, our products and services can include webinars and whitepapers offering insight into the K-12 marketplace.

The research team also contributes data and analyses to special coverage in Education Week. These studies inform data-driven journalism from top-flight reporters and editors. Often mining large-scale databases for insights, analyses offer a unique marriage of research and journalism.

Our History

With the 1997 launch of Quality Counts, the high-profile report that takes stock of state performance in education, Editorial Projects in Education, which publishes Education Week, augmented its analytical capacity by creating an in-house research team. The EdWeek Research Center continues to produce Quality Counts, which remains a flagship publication in the K-12 field. Building on the success of that publication, the Research Center also expanded its work to include a wide variety of diverse projects and areas of expertise.
